A: The Sarasota County School District does not require community service hours as a pre-requisite for graduation. However, community service is a requirement for the Florida Bright Futures scholarships.
Q: How do I register for community service?
A: Sarasota County students must register ONLINE in advance of performing the volunteer hours to receive Bright Futures credit. To register online, go to www.SarasotaCountySchools.net > Parents & Students > High School Community Service. Community service registration is approved by the High School Community Service (HSCS) Manager. Rotary Futures is the HSCS Manager for Venice High School.

A: Students may volunteer for a NON-PROFIT organization in the Sarasota County area. The exception to this rule are hospitals and assisted-living facilities which are allowed. A: Yes, students may now intern at a local office or business for community service credit.
Q: When do I sign up for Bright Futures?
A: ONLY SENIORS may complete the online application for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship, which is available after October 1st of their senior year. We encourage VHS students to complete the online application in the Rotary Futures College Resource Center so that we can answer any questions. It is a simple 15 minute process.
Q: Is the RFCRC only for high school students?
A: Current students, recent graduates of VHS, and all Sarasota County students are welcome to visit after September 13, 2021! Also, check out the college resource centers/student success centers at your individual schools first, since they may have resources specifically for students at that high school.
