  FAQ

1. Do I need to make an appointment to utilize the resources at the Rotary Futures Program (RFP)?

No, the Rotary Futures Program is a resource program available to all area residents. We have staff and volunteers able to assist you during our operating hours.

2. I do not attend Venice High School. Am I able to visit the Rotary Futures Program?

Yes, the RFP is a community-based program available to all Sarasota County residents. We encourage students of all ages to utilize our facility.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

3. Are high school students required to complete 75 hours of community service to graduate?

The Sarasota County School District does not currently require community service hours as a pre-requisite for graduation. However, students are encouraged to perform community service and they may earn 1/2 credit for 75 hours of focused community service.

In addition, the completed 75 hours community service plan is a requirement for the 100% level of the Florida Bright Futures scholarship

4. How do I register for community service?

Students must register in advance of performing the volunteer hours to receive high school credit. Registration for VHS students is handled by the Rotary Futures Program. Students attending other county high schools should contact their school for information on this process.

5. Where can I volunteer?

Students MUST volunteer for a NON-PROFIT organization. They may choose the non-profit organization for which they want to volunteer. However, all 75 hours must focus on a single social problem or concern identified in the registration papers.

6. I want to volunteer at my doctor's office, but I will not be paid. Is that OK?

No, you must volunteer for a NON-PROFIT organization to receive school credit for your community service.

7. When do I sign up for Bright Futures?

Seniors ONLY may complete an online application for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarships after December 1st of their senior year. We encourage students to complete the online application in the Rotary Futures Program portable so that we can answer any questions. It is a 15 minute process.
